Low Fell West Open Garden Event

St John’s Hospice have been kindly invited back to Low Fell West, Crosthwaite to sell light refreshments with proceeds going towards local Hospice care.

This 2 acre garden on a south facing slope has glorious views of Whitbarrow and Scout Scars and the Pennines beyond. The garden continues to be reclaimed from thickets of damsons, bracken and brambles since 2003; it has revealed extensive areas of rock outcrops. These have been planted with a wide variety of interesting shrubs, heathers, ornamental grasses and ‘prairie’ type plants, giving interest all year round.

Elsewhere there are informal lawns, wild flower meadows, ponds, paddocks, kitchen garden and the area is large enough to feed a passion for trees. The huge number of birds visiting the garden is a constant delight. An old gypsy caravan is a joy for children of all ages. Low Fell is partially surrounded by oak bluebell woods and open fell with well-marked trails, managed by Cumbria Wild Life Trust. This can be accessed directly from the garden.
